Our Team

Dave Hayden - President

I started out in the construction industry because I have always had an affinity to build things even as a young man. Coming up through the ranks, first as a Carpenter, then a Superintendent, Project Manager, Director of Operations, Vice President, and now President/Owner, taught me all levels of the industry and definitely gives me a better understanding of what it takes to bring a quality project to the client every time. With that background, what I do in the construction industry comes natural to me and I consider myself lucky to be making a living doing something I love.

Daren Lasky - Chairman

I have been in the construction industry since 1987, doing tile as a side business when I worked for the police department in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1992, I left law enforcement and went full time in the tile business doing small commercial projects. Over the years I expanded into a full service flooring contractor doing all aspects of flooring and stone work, including building exteriors. I then became a Signatory International Union Contractor and worked all over the USA from California to Boston and Puerto Rico. I have enjoyed my career and the opportunity to be a part of ARC from inception with friends I consider part of my family. I have been fortunate to enjoy the construction business on many different levels and I really enjoy the design and finish aspects that I'm able to assist our clients with.

Allison Hayden - Controller

My personal journey leading to American Retail Contractors involved over 12 years of invaluble experience in this industry. I have been able to take the best of all I have learned and fine-tune it at ARC to help create long-standing traditions and long-term relationships with our clients, subcontractors, and our team members. Handling the day to day accounting activities, implementing processes and procedures and investing in that success provides a great amount of pride and allows for the highest possible standards of service within our industry.

Zach Hayden - Superintendent/ Project Manager

I took a round about way into the construction industry. I graduated from ASU as a Biological Sciences – Pre-med student in 2013. There were many reasons why I chose not to continue on that path, but chief among them was an opportunity to join a team I have worked with my entire life – my family. I initially started out as a superintendent, running smaller tenant improvements like Payless ShoeSource and Dollar Tree. However, it didn't take long before I was running ground up restaurants. It is very exciting progressing my way through this industry, and having the opportunity to tackle new challenges everyday. I am very focused on the future of ARC, and ultimately who we can add to our growing family.

Alana Castillo - Project Coordinator

After 10 years in retail management, I found my passion in construction in 2011. I started as an administrative assistant for a larger general contractor where my diversity introduced me to coordinating estimates and assisting in accounts payable. I began working with my American Retail Contractors family in 2015, where my estimating and coordinating abilities flourished even more! I truly enjoy coming to work daily and coordinating each project from start to finish. ARC has made it easy for me to be a full-time mom while providing me with a fantastic opportunity to grow and learn in the field of work I love.

Amanda Jensen - Project Engineer

I have been working in construction for 24 years. I love the industry and understand most all aspects of it. From top to bottom, I continue to learn each and every day. I have been blessed with some amazing mentors. To be part of something and see the final product is quite the reward. Client satisfaction partnered with a great team and a great product is my number one priority. I love what I do and the people I do it with. In my spare time, I am a head coach for a local/national club volleyball team and enjoy traveling with my teenage daughter and husband.

Gloria Aitken - Project Coordinator

I was born and raised in Washington State and moved to Arizona in June of 2018.  I came into American Retail Contractors for a job interview and quickly felt at home when discovering that our owner Dave and I are both from Washington State, and ironically  graduated from the same high school!  I have been a project coordinator in various construction fields for the past 8 years back home and now furthering my skills and abilities here at American Retail Contractors.

Mike Jolly - Superintendent

I've been around construction my whole life. After school, I began my first projects in San Francisco and various locations in the Phoenix area including Desert Mountain, Verado and Marley Park. I'm passionate about getting the details right and never settle for less. I've recently returned from a 10 year break in construction where I built and sold several successful retail franchises. It was an invigorating experience and now I'm enjoying being at ARC and back to the challenge of a new project every year.

Jacob Cervantez - Superintendent

I entered the construction industry right out of high school at the age of 18. For the next ten years, I worked my way from general labor to superintendent building heavy highways, roads, and bridges throughout Arizona. In 2011, I put my skills to use in the mining industry, as superintendent of Shovel and Drill until I joined the team here at American Retail Contractors. The ability to put all of my skills to use at a company that values quality and family was well worth the change. I am proud to be a part of a team that is passionate about doing the right thing for the customer every time. I am very fortunate to have found a home in a company like this. Dave Hayden and his wife Allison are not just my employers, but have taken myself and all of us here at ARC in like family. They have built a company that is focused on taking ownership and pride in everything we do. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow, and I look forward to many years to come with this company.

Brian Pontrelli - Superintendent

I spent 8 years in the Marine Corp, deploying to Afghanistan. After that I worked with Dad until he passed away, then finding a job with a custom home builder and quickly became a Superintendent running track homes. After some time I made the decision to move into commercial construction with American Retail Contractor's and have been here happily since.

Stewart Francis - Superintendent

My passion and interest in the construction industry was passed down by my father as I would always accompany him to his job sites as a child. Following my interest, in high school I concentrated my studies in mechanical drawing and architecture. However, instead of continuing to pursue architecture after high school I took a different route towards business management that led to three degrees from two different institutions; SUNY Delhi and The University of Arizona. With bachelor degrees in differing management environments and an MBA concentrated in finance and MIS, I somehow went full circle and ended up back in an industry that I love. It has been just over a year with American Retail Contractors and I consider myself very fortunate to work alongside the awesome team here as I continue my journey in the construction management space.

Chris Scarpitti - Superintendent

I've been in construction most of my life, starting out doing electrical in 2001 and moving into superintendent work in 2018. Originally I'm from Ohio, moving to Arizona in 2006, where I've been since. I have a passion for building/ construction, and see myself doing this for many years to come.
